Do you struggle with having an adventures heart in a world where you are confined? I think this is a problem that a lot of us face. It is really hard to live with, and I’m curious on how you handle it.
Do you ever wish life was different? I have such a hard time with it sometimes. My soul yearns to be adventurous all the time! It is so hard for me to sit around and do nothing. When I used to have a 9 to 5 job, it killed me inside. I honestly wanted to die, even though I knew I was providing for my family. Why is that?
I would day dream all the time thinking about the adventures I was losing out on. How somebody else was outside living my dream while I was sitting inside wanting to scream.
I just recently decided to really pursue my dreams of being a fishing guide and doing adventure photography. It has been such a blessing already! I wake up every morning with that kid spirit again that I lost when I decided the love of money was more important than my passions and dreams I once had.
People always ask me, “how do you have the time to do all your adventures.” My answer is, “My soul would start to die if I didn’t.” I need adventure like most people need food. It is the fuel that keeps me going, almost to a fault. Anytime Tracy and I have time off we are going like crazy. We just love to make memories and meet new people.
A book that really helped me was “Wild at heart” by: John Eldredge. It is an incredible book and I encourage you to read it!
Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book:
“Deep in man’s heart are some fundamental questions that simply cannot be answered at the kitchen table. Who am I? What am I made of? What am I destined for? It is fear that keeps a man at home where things are neat and orderly and under his control. But the answers to his deepest questions are not to be found on television or in the refrigerator.”
“Don’t climb on that, don’t break anything, don’t be so aggressive, don’t be so noisy, don’t be so messy, don’t make such crazy risks. But God’s design–which he placed in boys as the picture of himself–is a resounding yes. Be fierce, be wild, be passionate.”
“A man needs a battle to fight; he needs a place for the warrior in him to come alive and be honored, trained, seasoned. If we can reawaken that fierce quality in a man, hook it up to a higher purpose, release the warrior within, then the boy can grow up and become truly masculine.”
“Yes. True strength does not come out of bravado. Until we are broken, our life will be self-centered, self-reliant; our strength will be our own.”
I am still trying to figure out why I am here and how to live a life that is fulfilling everyday. I think I am finally getting closer to what I am supposed to be doing and I am grateful for that. I hope you are finding your special niche in this world as well.
If you are young or old I totally suggest you check out:
He does a financial peace university class.
I was skeptical going into this because I thought he would just talk about making money whatever way possible. He doesn’t at all which is so cool. He talks about how to make money doing something you love. It’s your life, be happy :).
I wish I would have taken this class when I was a lot younger. They need to teach this stuff in high school.
So these are my two goals I have before I die:
I love God and pray often for him to give me peace and understanding about this subject. When I attend church all I can think about is having some type of fly fishing camp someday on a river. Where I bring kids and families out for a week at a time and teach them this great sport. Where they can learn about Jesus in one of the most beautiful settings in this world. My dream is for them to leave the camp with the knowledge and love for a sport they can use themselves and teach others.A healthy outlet in this crazy life of drugs, alcohol and chaos. I hope this dream happens someday.
My wife is a very successful photographer and I am so grateful for it. She is so talented and has brought so much more to our adventures because of it. My dream someday is to travel the world fishing everywhere and sharing Tracy and I’s adventures with you with photography and movies. Doing crazy funny things along the way that will keep you entertained. Being able to share with you, other peoples stories along the way and of course show you all the awesome things out there!! Maybe even have our own TV show someday!! :)
What would your perfect life look like?? I would love to hear your dreams :)
